Can Sleeping in Contacts Ruin Your Eye Health?
By Guest Writer | February 24, 2012 | Guest Writer, Health & Information | No Comments
If you’ve ever slept in those hard contact lenses you know how painful it can be. Your eyes are so dry, you don’t feel you can ever get enough saline in them. Plus, they’re red and irritated. All you want to do is take them out but they feel stuck to your eye. Ouch!
One of the reasons for this feeling is because your eyes need oxygen to breathe and contacts cut off your oxygen supply.
The new generations of lenses certainly feel better if you sleep in them. Some of today’s contacts are even FDA approved for up to 30 days of extended wear—put them in and leave ‘em. But, if you’ve gotten fitted for these, I’m sure your eye doctor suggested you didn’t really follow those guidelines....
5 Reasons Why You Should Wear Sunglasses During Winter
By Amy C (Guest) | December 13, 2011 | Guest Writer, Sunglasses, Tips & Advice | No Comments
Sunglasses are often associated with spring break and summer time. I mean – who wears them during winter, right? But as it turns out, sunglasses aren’t only a summer accessory. They can also be worn during winter! Here are five reasons why you should wear sunglasses during winter.
1. Protect your eyes from the sun
Even if its winter, the sun wont stop shining. Ice and snow can cause light to reflect back which can impair vision. Reflective glare is dangerous especially when driving or skiing. Caring For Your Sunglasses
By Viktoria A (Guest) | December 9, 2011 | Guest Writer, Tips & Advice | No CommentsSunglasses can be very fragile. They can get scratched, bent, lose a screw, and sometimes, all three. Replacing a pair can be costly. Here are some quick tips that will make caring for your sunglasses virtually painless:
Use a Case
Chances are, you just throw your sunglasses into your purse or on the dash of your car without a second thought. And when it's the off-season, they become entangled in your kitchen's junk drawer. If your goal is to destroy them, then job well done. If not, you need to ensure that you utilize a case or pouch that protects them from the elements, scratches, and becoming bent. A pouch provides a good amount of protection and is convenient and lightweight. If possible, however, the...
Driving At Night In Heavy Rain
By Deanna Proach (Guest) | December 5, 2011 | Guest Writer, Other | No Comments
Every person's worst nightmare is being caught driving on a highway in a heavy downpour. It is scary to be driving in broad daylight while streams of water fall out of the sky, pelting your windshield and reducing visibility. It is much worse when it happens at night.
Such a thing happened to me a few times in the past few years. I have had the added luck of getting caught in heavy rain while driving home at night. The first time it happened was at the end of August in 2007. I had attended a party at my cousins' house that afternoon. We experienced inclement weather that entire day. The day was punctuated by periods of heavy rainfall. My cousins live ten minutes down the road – a...
